FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
Everything you might want to know about Chronicle before you start.
- What is Chronicle?
- Chronicle gathers your life into one daily timeline, then resurfaces what happened on this day in years past. Photos, places, workouts, birthdays, and milestones, all in one quiet feed.
- Is it free?
- Yes, Chronicle is free. It runs on iPhone, iOS 26.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no sign-up and no login. You just open the app.
- Where is my data stored?
- Only on your iPhone. There is no cloud and no server. Your timeline lives entirely on your device.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes. Your timeline is local, so it works without a connection. Connecting Swarm or fetching historical weather needs internet.
- What can I add to my timeline?
- Photos, Apple Health, birthdays from Contacts, Calendar events, Milestones you create, Swarm check-ins, and imports from Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
- How do imports work?
- Request your data export ZIP from Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, then import the file in Chronicle. It is parsed entirely on your device.
- How do I connect Swarm?
- In Settings, connect Swarm. Chronicle pulls in your check-in history.
- Why does it ask for Photos, Health, Contacts, and Calendar?
- Each one powers a memory source. All of them are read-only and local, and Health is never written to.
- Does it track my location?
- No. Chronicle never asks for location permission. Place info comes only from the metadata already embedded in your photos.
- How do I delete my data?
- Disconnect or clear your data in Settings, or delete the app to remove everything.
- Who makes Chronicle?
- Chronicle is made by Blackpaw Studio.
